Robert is one of the most respected and successful lawyers in the field of credit reporting. Robert has won substantial verdicts and settlements for consumers on claims under the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). Most of Robert’s cases are against the “Big 3” credit reporting agencies: Equifax, TransUnion and Experian. Robert enjoys taking cases to trial, and has obtained jury verdicts against all three major credit reporting agencies. In 2002, he was lead counsel inThomas v. Trans Union (trial in Portland, Oregon), which resulted in the largest verdict ever awarded under the FCRA – $5.3 million. Robert was named Trial Lawyer of the Year in 2003 by the National Association of Consumer Advocates. He has also received the highest Peer Review Rating (AV) awarded by Martindale-Hubbell, the nation’s first and most prestigious lawyer peer rating firm.
Robert is one of the pioneers in the field of FCRA litigation, having handled such cases since 1996. His office is located in Portland, Oregon. Because of his national reputation, Robert represents consumers across the country and has handled FCRA cases in 20 different states.
Robert also handles class action cases under the FCRA. He was named class counsel in a certified class action, Curtis Jones v. Equifax, U.S. District of Oregon Case No. 3:12-cv-00387-MO. He is currently class co-counsel in five class action cases filed in federal district courts across the United States (Oregon, California, Georgia and New Jersey).
Robert obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1974. He moved to Oregon in 1975 and spent six years doing reforestation work on national forest lands throughout the West. Robert graduated from the University of Oregon School of Law in 1984, and then worked as an associate at a large Portland firm. In 1986, he moved to Washington, DC, where he was Legislative Director for Congressman Bill Richardson of New Mexico. In 1990, he moved back to Portland and joined a plaintiff’s personal injury firm that specialized in product liability cases. Robert started his own practice in 1995 and began focusing on consumer law. He served for many years on the Executive Committee of the Oregon State Bar Consumer Law Section and is a former chair of the Oregon State Bar Product Liability Section.
Robert is married and has two children who are currently in college. He is an avid hiker, and enjoys foreign travel and playing basketball.
